Really really dumb question

How the hell do you remove the inner platter from a Thorens TT? My TD-166 has a plastic piece which prevents removing this platter. I'm only asking because I might be inclined to clean the shaft and relube the bearing but I can't get the dang platter to lift off so I can get at it.
