"No static at all . . ."

Sheesh, I guess I'll have to stick with my crappy Crown FM-Three a while longer.

NYC radio sucks so bad (both quality and content) these days that I no longer have any desire for a tuner; good, bad or otherwise.

Whenever I hear someone bad mouth FM radio in the NYC Tri-State area I scratch my head. There aren't enough hours in the day to enjoy it all.
Maybe you need to broaden your musical horizon. And/or get a better tuner.
Gotta go....... Blues Hour on WBGO 88.3 on the dial. Assorted artists covering Robert Johnson.
Happy listening

Really? No college stations? No Classical? No Jazz? I thought NYC also has a Pacifica station. Even if you don't like their political programming, I'd expect they'd have some decent music programming - at least, the one in Houston did when I lived there.

If you stick to commercial stations, I'm not surprised that the airwaves are pretty barren there, but I'd think there'd be some good stuff on the left side of the dial where the non-commercial stations are. And since a lot of those stations are pretty low power, a good tuner (and antenna) is very helpful in getting them. They also tend not to overprocess their signal the way commercial stations usually do these days.

I have no idea whether dollar amounts are low or high for the specific tuners mentioned above.

Generally I usually only track McIntosh electronics and McIntosh tuners seem to have been on the downward trend over the past 5 - 6 years that I've been following.

Although not quite "top end", but last month I was disappointed when a near pristine MR 78 that had been offering that just been completely gone through by Terry, only fetched $960. Five years ago, it would have easily made well north of $1K.

I do not know whether a similar trend exists throughout the tuner market as a whole.

The tuner market overall is in decline pricewise. The exception is highly-regarded tube tuners. You can't find a bargain on a Fisher FM-100B or 200B.

I'm guessing those are also relatively scarce as well...?

FWIW - McIntosh MR 71 & 67 have not been doing all that well lately. Can't recall the last time I saw an MR 71 make over $1K.

Scarcity and publicity

Not really. You can go months without seeing a Scott 4310 or Fisher FM-1000 on Ebay but there are always a few of the Fisher 100s or 200s. The FM-1000 was their cost-no-object "statement" tuner as was the 4310 for Scott and both are ultra-rare.

Interesting about that Kenwood L02-T. The "shootout" series below used it as their reference.

Fortunately you can almost always find an Accuphase T-100 available.

Crown FM-1 very good.

I have had one for 45 years and it still sounds good. Time for work though. Stereo is inter.
Hope it can outlast me.
I bought it new from Musicraft in Chi. and it was a toss-up between Sequerra and Crown. Both the same price at the time but Sequerra had a high return rate due to circuit design issue.
Crown was simpler and It shows. Nothing done in 45 years. It also has been on every day during that time.

From what I've read, the FM-200/FM-200B doesn't give up all that much to the consumer version of the FM-1000. The broadcast monitor version, FMR-1, has some unusual bells and whistles.

The Scott 4310 that was just on eBay finished at $2,127. A recent FM-1000 went for $737.79. The Scott had a wood case, the Fisher did not. The Scott was in good working original condition, the Fisher apparently had some issues.

The last Kenwood L-02t bid ended at $5245.00.

That's why

Caddy,
I agree with you. McTuner prices (and I suspect other brands) are on decline.
I've recently picked up MR71 (my second one) locally for $350!
It is in a great condition, original, but gave some issue to the previous owner with Right channel that turned out to be corrosion on tube sockets.

I remember both 71 and 67 often going to $1k or over in a past but nowadays $500+ is not unusual.

Not to many station to listen here in Seattle but two I do, KPLU 88.5) and KEXP (90.3) are really really hood.
And I just installed antenna in my attic few weeks ago... :music:
