Makes perfect sense, that way the 'edges' of the front veneer (what there is of them) are to the 'sides'. Same way you would construct a solid wood cabinet if end grain had to be exposed one way or the other.

Great tips - I have a set of Forte I was thinking may make a good first veneering project this summer. I was thinking more zebrawood stained black myself (like the Spendor and Monitor Audio Piano Ebony).

Update, got these babies finished! Local friend is buying them. Installed slanted risers and build new grill frames with new cane grill material atttached using hidden magnets. On to the next project!!!
