If you guys are handy with tools at all, it is vastly less expensive to put wood veneer on an existing top cover than it is to custom build one out of solid hardwood. Not to mention that plywood is much more stable and less prone to cracking or warping.

Thats true. The case I had on my amp was chipped up on the corners so I figured why not just build a new one. I have never done veneer, but don't think it would be too difficult. Might try that someday.
