Sansui 9900/11000 Recap

just thought id report back now that the amp is finished.
idle and offset adjusted perfectly, i played music for an hour and did final adjustments.
just have to say that this was one of the most well designed amps i´ve worked on. really superb enginering!
and the sound coming from it is nothing short of amazing!

all electrolytic capacitors were replaced with panasonic FC and Nichicon UVP (bipolar ones)
all 2sa726/2sc1313 were replaced with BC327/337
4 DS-430 diodes were replaced with 1N4148 on the driverboard
6 1uf bipolar electrolytic was replaced with wima MKS2 in the riaa and tone controls.
protection relay replaced with Finder 55.34.9.024.0040 and adapter socket

some final pictures

80mm in height is pretty much the max you could use in here:)

well it turns out this will be sort of a 9900 vs 11000 thread since 2ch picked up his amp and left a 11000.
im somewhat thrilled about this!:) the info i gathered from the schematic/manual wich is pretty much the "same" for both amps.
11000 has a bigger transformer?
11000 has 10000uf maincaps instead of 6800uf
11000 has a slightly larger heatsink ( i can see it thruough the air vents) i havent opend it up yet, its in que.

There seems to be quite a few component value changes, the combined effect is to make the amplifier slightly more powerful. As for the transformer, they might have used the same one, but a way to check is look at the Sansui part number of the respective transformer in the SM - this will tell you if they are different.

OK well, they are different in that case, that's really where the extra power comes from. :)

in reallity one could stuff a 11000 trafo in a 9900 and get a 30wpc turbo?

I wouldn't advise it  - because of the other changes already mentioned.

And, would it be worth it? AU-9900 80wpc, AU-11000 110wpc - thus not worth the effort. :)

my guess is the more powerful trafo does it, and to compensate they have made the heatsink 10-15mm higher. and thrown in some 10k caps.

also have to say i´m very biased when it comes to sansui. my father had a au-20000 around 1994-95 and he sold it, wich has proven to be a big mistake:)
i own 2 sansui of my own a 7500 (awesome 30wpc) and a 3900 (wich might be a fix-up thread in the future) its a wreck.

another thing i´ve noticed is the 9900 was a multi votage unit 100,110,220,240vac
this one is 220vac only, not that its models specific but interesting,.lol no its not! think i´ll go to bed now:)

Sooo! im back:)
the 11000 is in parts....well almost that is:)

i can confirm that the 9900 and 11000 uses the same caps list except for the maincaps
9900 uses 4x 6800uf 63V
11000 uses 4x 10000uf 63V

some initial pics of the 11000 driverboard (same as the one in the 9900 earlier in the thread)

i think its about time to replace the caps in this amp:)

002.JPG

everything looks stock except for C17 in the protection must have been replaced pretty recently to some computer psu samwha cap.
and C18 is a Nichicon UPW 3,3/100? schematic calls for a 10uf?

underside..
might aswell be a shot of the 9900:)

topside

the slightly bigger heatsinks sits all the way to the top of the chassis, about a 5mm clearence to the lid.

Hi!
I'll have to doublecheck it before i can promise that. Hold on.:)
Notice that the list is for amps using F-2583 driver board.

well i think the list is correct. so order away oldsysop:)

Edited the list

i will be replacing these with F&T 50x80mm screw terminal caps.
they are however a little bigger, 22000/63 lol

Cleaned and recaped F-2568 Regulator/protection board

2 caps on this board where actually broken. legs fell of as soon as i touch them:)
so this amp probably wouldnt have played on for very long without new caps.
