Windows 10 October Edition has been withdrawn.

It has come to light there is a serious problem with Windows 10 October Edition. It seems that it is deleting everything in the Documents files. As I understand it assumes these documents have been stored in One Cloud and deletes them from the PC. I checked my Document folder and everything thing is OK. I have never kept anything important there anyway. My version of W10 is the home edition. The stories I have read do not say which Edition this problem is found in Pro, Home, or both. However the people reporting the problem would be using the Pro Edition.

OneDrive is disabled in Startup. Just checked it again in case it auto-enabled. It did not. If you haven't done so, disable now. Default is enabled.

Come to think of it I have disabled one cloud as well. I use iCloud instead.

So that problem will come in from doing updates, I guess. Is it possible to recognize and remove the update?

Yes just do a “restore point” to return the computer to an earlier state.

But I don't want to lose the other things I put on it, I just want to remove the update. Maybe that's not possible. I was thinking there might be a "KB" number for it so I could teach installed updates and remove it.

Geepers. If you are a typical rarely backed up home user, this is worse than a security bug. Why wait for a hacker or a worm to trash your data? Just have Microsoft do it.

Looks like the fix is out today. If you don't have automatic updates turned on, run a manual update.

My W10 computer was on overnight. The patch must have sneaked through.

So the next question is, How many of you are regularly backing up your data?

My stuff is backed up on Cloud, Google photos and backup HHD’s. I never keep anything important in the Documents file.

I redirect my data to small NAS, no data on my OS disk. Then run nightly backups 3 times a week. Just backup the changes. I have lots of digital music, so to do fulls would take too long.

I went for an interview for the MS update team as a contract gig through a place called Zen3.
The retards at Zen3 think they have a clue, so they have an "expert" screen candidates before forwarding the resume.
The ass hat from the other side of the planet asked me a bunch of programming 101 questions and didn't understand the answers.
The job has nothing to do with his questions.

    I didn't get a call back.

I hold a PhD in computer science and have been a professional software tester for 15+ years for Microsoft, PortalPlayer, Nvidia, Broadcom, SpaceX.

As long as places like Zen3 are placing 101 students in Windows Update, you are going to see no end of trash.
