set screw banana plugs

I just bought some cheaper banana plugs from acoustic research, i usually buy the monster ones that you insert the wire spread it around and twist the "nut" like back end back on until its tight and holds the wire in. "thoughs are the expensive ones" these ones http://monstercables.com/productPage.asp?pin=1272

BUT i just wanted to use some cheaper ones for the back of my receiver and got these, http://www.araccessories.com/Cultur...s;Speaker Wire;Banana Plugs&ProductDetail=YES

and i dont know how to use them..... they dont come with instructions, all it says is EASY INSTALLATION, NO CRIMPING OR SOLDERING NEEDED, SET SCREW DESIGN. Now since ive never used a "set screw designed banana plug i dont know how this works......"

someone mind helping me out here :sigh:

thanks alot

I would assume that under the plastic boot there is a "set" screw that you could screw out a bit then slide the end of your stripped wire into and tighten the screw back tight to hold the wire in place. Don't forget to slide that plastic boot over your wire first so you can slide it back on when the wire is on the connector.

Hope that's the case for ya !!!

the boot doesnt seem to come off......... i dont want to pull on it to hard because the end one hand is pulling on is the actual plug, so i think that would pull off before the boot by the feel of it.

never mind, thanks park your advice worked, i got my nail under the boot and it cam off and now im set i see the screw.

Hmmmm....
Maybe try soking them in hot soapy water might get that boot off :scratch2:

wow these work and look nice :D im surprised, they really grab onto the wire nicely, maybe even better then the 4 times more expensive monster ones do.... :scratch2:

The trouble I have had with cheap banana plugs are that they fall out or get loose over time. Plus they are shorter (the ones I have used) and dont get in far enough. . .

I like these. . . Parts Express. . . IIRC about 6.95 bucks for all 4 . . .

I think it's very hard to beat the electrical and mechanical connection you get with the crimp type followed with a solder of the criimp- they're usually cheaper that the set screw or compression type too.
