Show Us Your Sonys!!!

Here's some nudies of the Sony ST-S3000ES tuner. It's a European model I got in auction from Germany. Abu Dhabi uses European broadcast standards so no change in de-emphasis or voltage reguired.

Sounds as good as the TOTL ST-SA5ES to me with similar RF performance in my location.

Very nice. I like that display. Did it require any changes to bandwidth(s) to operate properly in NA (or are you in Europe these days?)? My ST-J75 is about as 'minimalist' looking inside as your ST-S3000ES. It remains the quietest of all my tuners on a good signal (they are recapped & aligned).

Not the best Sony amp, but as it has loads of lights I liked it when I was a kid. Doesn't sound too bad, but nothing special. Sony TA-X310.

Hey all.
I won a Sony STR-6050 on ebay and after what felt like years its finally here! I'm going to take it home and hook it up and I will take some nicer pics when I do. As you can see its very clean. almost no heavy signs of wear. the only major thing I can find is a small nick on the bottom right hand side of the face plate. Case is almost completely flawless. some minor bumps on front pieces that mate to the metal face. I cleaned the face already and pretty much everything came off.

Hi,

I have a number of old Sony solid state pieces (6120, 1130, 6065, V5, 7045) and I love them all. I picked up a very clean looking TA-1120 (not A) with a weak left channel. I'm in Louisville, KY and looking for someone to put some time and expertise in it to get it singing again. Does anyone know anyone in this area who you'd trust. I'd also be willing to ship to someone familiar with the 1120's who would want to take on the project if they are trustworthy.

Thanks in advance.

You may want to reach out to Casper Stereo Rehab in Chicago 773/765-4236 · 1324 W Devon Ave Chicago, IL 60660. Hes currently working on my 6120 and I have no doubt it will come back fit for Gods Heavenly Choir. But don't take my advice, do a search on AK and on google and you'll see what I mean.

He spent over an hour just walking me through what he will do and what the end result will sound like. Hes a pro. Plain and Simple. He has a particular love for vintage Sony as well.

Give him a ring

Just missed a nice and shiny STR-V7 for sale in Dubai for 500 AED (about $135), supposedly fully functional.

I found it when I checked the local Dubizzle site on the morning of a day off and messaged immediately. Got the news it was first come, first serve so I hopped in my car and drove the hour and a half to the far side of Dubai only to discover that it had been sold minutes before.

Didn't need it, what with a McIntosh amp already, but who wouldn't want to double your system's power to 160 wpc?

I hope the new owner, whoever he is, respects it.

+1 on Casper at Stereo Rehab. He's not only a great tech but also a good, trustworthy guy. He can fix or upgrade just about anything, but his specialties are tube gear and as you say vintage Sony, especially the early stuff. He has a nice collection of Sony STR-6060 receivers, all of which he's rebuilt. One of them came from.... me.
