Signet Electronic Stylus Cleaner

At a recent flea market, I picked up a Signet SK305 Electronic Stylus Cleaner for $1. Runs on one AA battery and hums when turned on. Has anyone used one of these? Do they work? Is there any risk of damaging a stylus? According to the instruction, it is either made or marketed by Audio Technica. Thanks

It's the same as the Audio Technica AT-637 stylus cleaner.

An update. The stylus is supposed to rest on an approx. 1/4" diameter circle that I believe was an extremely small brush. Upon closer inspection I saw that the disc is either flat plastic or a stiff rubber. The "brush" seems to be gone. In the thread noted above from 2009 it was suggested that a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked. Am I supposed to take a tiny piece of ME and glue it to the circular vibrating piece?
