Sloooooowww to start, direct drive Akai

I have an AKAI direct drive that is extremely slow starting. The servo lock light flickers for a while when it finally gets up to a speed that resembles normal. Then after letting it run for an hour or so the light becomes stable. Also while in the "warm up phase" the cut return button will not function. After running for an hour or so that function works. I'm thinking its a capacitor thing. Any thoughts?

Check not only the capacitors but the power supply, and make sure it's in good order, and voltages are correct. If the power supply voltage is off, it can affect the servo references and cause other issues like the ones you're facing.

Direct drive tables also need to periodically lubed. Bearings and thrust washer are often completely ignored. (not the cause of your problems, but while your in there........).

Oxidation in the speed switches may be the cause, try cleaning with DeOxit first.
