Some sansui back in the house

I'm a Bass Line Junkie
I have just acquired a near mint G-7000 from a deceased estate literally less than 4 miles down the road. It had been on gumtree for 16hrs for £100 when my dad rang me at 7am in the morning, 'theres a big G sansui receiver on with some other hifi stuff'. I rang the lady straight away and she wasn't best pleased as i had woken her up but the good news was she hadn't sold it. She told me to ring back later and she stated that she already had alot of interest in the stereo stuff. I rang twice 1hr later with no response. Then i decided to text her that ill give her £250 and that i could pick it up 'sold as seen'. No one else had offered her more than the £100 so i ended up picking it up that day! I bought her some flowers as an apology for waking her up.

It came with an akai tape deck, 3 way solavox speakers and goldring turntable. I gave my dad the akai deck and solavox speakers as a finders fee and sold the turntable so it ended up costing me £180 which is a great deal!

It does work but its sounding very tired, none of the lights come on and the switches and controls need some deoxit. Looks like its had some crappy minor work done.

Here are pictures

That's very nice - congrats!!! You got the lady flowers for waking her up to sell her stuff? That's funny but sweet. Good karma and nice Sui. You'll get it running soon enough! Was it a Goldring Lenco?

It was a goldring lenco gl-78 in excellent condition in original plinth. Needed some work and it was missing its lid. Had a shure m55e cartridge on it. Very heavy piece of kit.

I thought i had no chance of buying the stuff after i had woken her up!

Some nice kit you scored there. I'll confess to knowing nothing of the Solavox speakers (I'm guessing these are a British or Euro make?) nor the turntable. Akai made some very nice decks back in the day, have a three head here myself that is never used anymore and keep telling myself it's time it let it go to someone who'll enjoy it.

In any case, for the price paid (if my understanding of current exchange rate of UKP to USD is correct) you did very well to pick up just the Sansui for what you have invested. The G-7000 is no slouch, and if it works - or even requires minimal work comensurate with age - you've gotten a cracking deal.

One G-7000 safely arrived, and as agreed with owner Mike, I won't be starting work on it for a couple of months, but then I'll post something up. :)

Finally, a 'Big G' to play with. ;) (can a G-7000 be called a 'Big' G ?)

Well, it powers on, (no dial or meter lights) protection light and stereo light work OK. Both channels work, as do the FM and AM tuners. I have just removed an added single wire only attached to the mains plug earth - and nothing else (?), and changed the mains fuse in the plug from 13A (!) to 5A. ;) - that's all for now.

Should be a pleasure to work on, looks unmolested from the pics. If you have never listened to one you are in for a treat once done. Btw, somebody lost the steering wheel in that first pic, how on earth did you get it safely to your abode?

Aha, that was the owners car, so it appears from the picture big G's are so good they can even drive a car.

But I would have believed that anyway from all the comments about them. :)

No, this is my first sight and sound of one - they are as rare as hens teeth over here.

:)
Check the resistors in the power supply on the Phono board, there are 4 of them and in the 3 or 4 of these I have worked on, they have all drifted severely....
F2852 Board, R45,46,47,48 100Ω.
Also a couple of MV12 Diodes hiding in there too.
