Can the laser be replaced in a Sony 707esd? If so who does such work? I really like this player> It is beefy and sounds great when working..... Thanks!

The laser pickup of any CDP can be replaced, provided the replacement is still available. For the model you mention, the laser pickup is a Sony KSS-190A ( http://www.dutchaudioclassics.nl/the_complete_d_a_dac_converter_list/#S ). From what I've seen on the net, this is a rare and therefore expensive replacement to find: http://www.thevintageknob.org/tvk_talk/viewtopic.php?f=1501&t=1935 . So, before thinking about somebody that could do the replacement job (a low-level difficulty task), you should start your chase for a laser pickup replacement, IMHO.

Donor systems

Since most of the laser blocks from Sony's top of the line vintage CDP's are NLA it is often the case that the only way to get a replacement is by finding a lower end model that has the same laser and can be got for less money than the 707ESD's are demanding to be used as a doner. Check the list that at the link that guiller provided for other CDP's with KSS-190A's. Somewhere on line there is even a similar list where you can sort by laser part number which makes it a lot easier but I don't have the link handy.

Like the others said, you gotta find a donor,or have the LUCK to find one for sale.It happens sometimes.VERY VERY RARE
:tears::tears:If only Sony would do a batch of these lasers:tears::tears:And not only Sony
There are a lot of very nice players out there, but, without a laser, they just sit on a shelf. So sad:tears:

KSS 190A lasers didn't get used in lower end players. Maybe the player or two down from ES at best.

Two down might be lower enough to make an affordable doner if the only other choice is to turn the CDP-707ESD into a boat anchor. I picked up a CDP-X339ES at some point just to have it's KSS-272A available for my Champagne CDP-X707ES should the need ever arise. A CDP-337ESD with a useable KSS-190A, should one show up on ebay, might be an affordable doner for the OP's 707ESD, the word affordable being relative. I guess it's a matter of degree and how much he really wants to keep it going.
