Sony PS-X6 auto returns - right away

Hi AK. I just purchased a nice Sony PS-x6 turntable at an estate sale for $40. It turns on and seems to run and even has the original head shell. Problem is that as soon as the auto start begins the auto return function starts after just a few revolutions on the platter. Plays about 5-10 seconds then the auto return sequence starts.
Any ideas??.

These tables are ready for a relube as the old grease has turned to glue. Head over to VE to get the manuals for the table and then you can go about removing the grease and relubing the table. Seems this malfunction would be associated with the gear under the platter.

Read all the cautions about the table, feet, platter magnetic ring and such, too so you have a great table when you are done and not a doorstop. dshoaf and I have written a lot about the PS-X7/X6 and more recently an X5.
