I am putting together a Parts list for Sony (Also have another thread on Luxman R-1070 recap) so best to get everthing at once.

Have a question on the Main Caps for Sony STR-6065...(2) 6000uf / 63v :scratch2:

Only cap I see are Nichicon KG 6800uF / 63V

Going over some threads I did not see what others have used.

You could go up in voltage, see if that gets you more options. If not, 6800 *shouldn't* present a problem to the rectifier/transformer.

Did see this on Fleebay Item number: 180560100685
BHC AEROVOX ALS30A 63V 6000UF AUDIO AMP/PREAMP CAPACITOR

Never heard of them...:scratch2:

I would go with some 10,000uF 63V caps. More options available to you, and tend to be cheaper.

Increasing the capacitance in such a minimal way is not a problem.

Your challenge/mission would probably be to find capacitors with the same diameter, so that you can maintain the current bracket. The issue is that the current caps are 40mm in diameter, and this is no longer the IEC standard (which has become 35 and 50 mm some 20 years ago). Only the Nichicon KG series (and some Mundorf I think) offer a couple of 40mm diameter caps. Also, if you want solder lugs, there is not much choice left in the 'low' voltage range (tube folks still have much more choice). The same KG series offer solder lugs for some ratings. You could very well go up in voltage (lower ESR), and to some extend in capacity. Sony transformers and rectifyers are normally well rated.

This is what I will be using 6800uF / 80V, Nichicon KG, Gold Tune, 35mmx50mm
Here is a recent thread with some discussion about the large caps along with some nudies.

Thanks for the link...I see that 6800uf / 100v was used so the Sony can handle this increase...I can get 6800uF / 80V, Nichicon KG...so this will be the one.

How about posting a cap list when you are done? I will be doing one sometime in the future and a verified, preprepared cap list would come in really handy.

I am starting this list..Should be complete by end of this week. Working on a list for Luxman R-1070 and H/K 730.

I am re-starting this list...I just wrapped up a Sony STR-7045. What BIG sound on this....

Question on some caps for STR-6065....

Power board is using 50uf 100v. Can I use 56uf 100v?

I should think so. 10% increase is 55uf.

These Sonys always sound good.

All complete...Removed the Big Cans and installed Nichicon KG 6800uF / 63V

Just need to pick-up the Dial bulb(8v 0.15a screw type)..On the hunt for this.

Adjustments made and sounding nice..

Bumping this old thread.....and looking for that same list as well. Just picked up a 6065 and anxious to give it a refresh. Anyone?

There are 0.22uF and 0.33uF aluminum electrolytic caps listed in Service Manual. Is it a mistake?

Sup with that parts list? Wasn’t that the whole point of this thread? Love it when Ops disappear after they get the help that They need. Smh
