Spring Replacement

At what point in time should one consider changing the suspension springs in an LP-12?

My table is from 1983. It was purchased used - not from the original owner. All three springs and nuts have some sort of red "loctite" on them, so I suspect that they may be original.

My 1977 model still has the original silver springs - I have some new black springs and grommets waiting to go on, but I'm in no rush as it still sounds fine.

If the loctite is still holding the nut to the thread, your LP12 probably needs to be set-up fresh.

Thanks for the info :)

The loctite (or whatever was used) was not holding the nuts in place. As a matter of fact, the level of the platter was WAY off but was fixed with a bit of adjustment to the springs. I tried to bring the nuts right up to the point where the red loctite was on the screws, but this wasn't always possible.
