Stalking an Altec Duplex tonight, I need some background and comparison info.

This single speaker has been posted on my local Craigslist for sometime. I flirted with it at $300, but now it's been relisted at $200.

The cabinet is on legs and is quite handsome. The only Altec badging is on the rear and is a green HF attenuator. There is a switch and another black attenuator on the back too.

Despite my tweaking, the photo of the front grill reveals only a single largish driver.

Maybe a 601 or 602, but I'm wishing hard for a 604. Maybe a 414 and a 3000A.

My plan is to pull the back and check resistance at the voice coils.

At this price is there anything to definitely avoid?

Can you pop the back off the cab before you buy it? You will then have your answer

I went there with a screwdriver. I got the back off just long enough to see that big old green driver. Sold.

Nice. Hope all is working well with the drivers. Curious about the toggle switch and extra attenuator. Please post a pic of the cabinet.
