Summer Solstice: Tropo FM "Ducting" propagation San Diego, CA

Today is the first full day of summer. Coincidentially there's a nice FM DX Tropospheric opening in the San Diego area at this time.

I noticed it late last night when tons of adjacent channel DX stations from as far away as Santa Barbara were coming in strong with excellent fidelity.

Right now I am tuned to KCSB 91.9 from Santa Barbara. They are doing a "Summer Solstice" special playing different versions of the Gershwin's classic Summertime. Nice contrast between John Coltrane, Ella & Louis and Janis Joplin's renditions.

With this tropo DX opening I have been able to appreciate my SX-1980's excellent DX abilities. Adjacent channel reception is exemplary. Signals come in noise free and often with full stereo separation. I am using a regular 300 ohm folded dipole as supplied with most receivers.

Here's the VHF/UHF Tropospheric map of the west coast. The orange areas denote strong to intense propagation characteristics.
