Good morning Nines. Just about blasted myself out of the room this morning. I had the amp turned up pretty loud without realizing it. Man, those Mani-2s pack a punch!
Now it's:
Blind Faith - S/T
Happy to know that no-one was hurt.

I thought I heard something this morning...

"Careful with that amp Eugene ... err, .... I mean 'BBG'"

"The Complete Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Recordings" - a little brightness to offset a dreary northern New York Sunday. Just enough snow is forecast to remind us that worse is coming.

In his new book "The Great Jazz and Pop Vocal Albums," Will Friedwald writes "...the way that voice and keyboard interact here seems to have no antecedent in the whole history of jazz; this is more like an American idea of lieder."

I'm a huge Bennett fan, but despite the obvious greatness of these two albums (recorded in mid 70s, just piano and voice, collected here with a bunch of out takes) it's taken me a long time to do more than appreciate them. Bennett sounds so formal to me here - thinking of them as art songs, as lieder, helps.
