Super bowl

Thanks to this thread, I now have a better understanding why I don't pay any attention to the NFL.

This year's Superbowl was the best in decades. This of course is strictly my opinion, but seeing the underdog hold the lead through most of the (close) game, retake the lead, and one last gasp hail Mary that failed.

There were several incompletions from Brady that looked like the team wasn't on the same page. Even some of the sideline camera pans, and there wasn't that look of confidence usually seen.

The Eagles came in with a good game plan, and executed it, the Patriots looked the confidence Tyson exhibited before he got in the ring with Buster Douglas.

I hear ya. I'd rather watch a good high school game. Come to think of it I'd rather watch a bad high school game too.

It appears I'm not the only one who noticed the referee bias, the news is already talking about the poor officiating.

Excerpts:

It's fine if that is considered a catch, but it hasn't been a catch all year, and suddenly the NFL is changing its mind midstream on the biggest possible stage.

Philadelphia appeared to line up with just six players on the line of scrimmage and five behind the line of scrimmage, which would make the play an illegal formation. It was a close call, with the wide receiver lining up about half a yard behind the line, when he should have been on the line, covering the right tackle. But it easily could have been flagged. If it had been called, the Eagles would have been penalized five yards and almost certainly would have kicked a field goal on the play. Instead, the Eagles got a touchdown, and were gifted an extra four points.

Hundreds of irate fans took to Twitter after the Eagles' win and they all wanted to know the same thing: Why didn't Philly get flagged for pass interference on the final play of the game?

The Patriots lost Super Bowl 52, but they can perhaps console themselves with the fact that will probably be hearing a lot less about how they supposedly get all the calls from officiating crews. Referees passed up reasonable opportunities to negate Eagles touchdowns in the second, third and fourth quarters Sunday, helping Philadelphia to a 41-33 triumph.

sometimes you gotta follow the actual game. the receiver in questioned checked down with the side judge, whose sole job is to count set players, formations, encroachments etc, and he gave an ok signal before the snap. and given that the player in question ran a fake wheel route, was not even in the consideration. if you recall the patriots ran the same play and if it was guessed what was going on, foles was not expected to be the intended but rather a play from the steelers book where the now released running back gets it. watch the film.

and people really need to read the rules. in the case of a jump ball (and who in america did not read the huddle break as 'gronk gets the ball', given that he is taller and larger than every man in coverage), if all the defenders are looking at the ball(which they were) the chance of illegal contact drops to nil. the defender has a much right to the ball, when facing it, as anyone, since all arms were in the air, proper play, proper call.

and I should add, its a great day in america. the patriots lost and the B&B boys got to go home dejected. and to all the fake football fans that cheer for a hot team, just so they can say they were 'on the winning side', go choose another sport. like curling.

hey nascar starts up soon.

Fun game. I was rooting for the evil empire's sixth win, having been seduced by Tom Brady's boyish charm, shark eyes, creepy clam, and ability to leave one supermodel for another with nary a consequence. But that 4th down trick play call by the Eagles could not be denied. Am I the only one besides my wife who thinks the Eagle's coach looks like an older Don Draper?

As for JT's halftime show, my 16-year-old daughter called his music "good, but old." Old? I'm glad we didn't have to suffer through another classic rocker doing a hurried medley of hits.

No standout commercials. Lots of pathos (cue the piano music) and some clean (Tide) humor, but not enough skin or dumb humor for my low-brow tastes.

So what do the Eagles do about the starting QB next year?

of synced. when zztop and another year the doobies did the show, it was lip/guitar synced and I recall how tom johnston REALLY made his displeasure evident.

as for this years half time show...justin who? the performance was crap, the music was crap, the lyrics were crap. Im not a fan, in fact, if would have been worth the money to have both defensive lines converge on him. quickly.

Plenty of non-calls for pass interference, holding, etc. committed by both teams. I'm a big football fan, but much of the NFL game is based on getting away with cheating.
actually, I had not seen the stat since early in the 3rd, but t he eagles were called for far more penalties for far more yards at that point. the entire AFC complains that in a scrum, the patriots get one or two defenders to grab your arms while a 3rd goes slap happy at the ball. being a steelers fan, the last 2 meetings of the teams showed that in heavy highlights. the eagles, prepared for that, you will note that in crowd situations the eagles carrier would do the 'bread hold' and take his own legs out from under him to get down. better to NOT gain the last yard and maintain possession. when the refs are shady, that whistle takes a good 3-5 seconds to go off after he is down (ball movement is always the defense) but on the big show, the delay was only 1-2 seconds and it helped.

this film will be the most studied by ball hands people this offseason. the eagles put up a BIG blueprint.

Interesting little piece.Since Kurt Warner (sp) did it way back when,no quarterback has won a superbowl after being named the mvp of the league. Its the kiss of death.

I watched a documentary about people in Philadelphia...

Evidently, they make a drink called "riot juice" for all major sporting events.

I really don't have a dog in this race but, coming from New Jersey, I gotta say that the Eagles fans are the scum of the earth. Here's a typical example of how they celebrated last night's win. It isn't the first time they've pulled this.

Well I stayed out until 530 in the morning and yes there were some idiots in the crowd of 250000 people celebrating.
8 light poles down , a car overturned , a destroyed window and awning , fights.
But thats really not all that bad in comparison.

As for your scum of the earth comment ... I believe making gross generalizations about an entire teams fan base and dramatically rabble rousing about events you did not participate in , would be more indicative of scumbag behavior.

Whoop dee doo you can find some clickbait trash article detailing 50 years (literally there are 50 year old examples in that article) of drunken idiots.
Honestly half of that stuff isnt even that bad.
Says alot about how you absorb knowledge. One dramatic click at a time.

Ever take a psychology class ?
