SX-1050 Short on Right Channel

Hi tsd71, rcs16, others. I'm trying to locate the entire SX-1050 BOM, and found the cap list with some of the transistors listed in the AK Docs Database, but it is not a complete BOM. It did not include the transistor list posted above. Is there a complete transistor list or BOM posted here on AK somewhere? I tried searching.

tsd71, see if you can update your list, it is still showing 667-ECQ-V series which are now a few years obsolete.

So I replaced Q18 and the 4 right channel outputs plus all 4 trimmer pots. There is no longer a short on right channel. Dialed in DC Adjustment and Idle current on both channels. DC offsets are below 3 mV. Music plays fine out of right channel but very low on left. All 4 trimmers tested bad. Looks like left outputs may have been compromised as well so I will order replacements this week.

Latest update. Over the weekend I replaced the left channel outputs along with Q17 and cleaned pots, switches and push buttons really good and sound plays fine out of both channels now. Had to remove volume pot to dis-assemble it some to get deoxit inside. I hooked my phone app signal generator up along with my oscilloscope and get good clean tones on both channels.

I also fixed broken shaft on bass know and got replacement glass for the face, sanded and re-oiled wood case. Everything is coming together pretty good!

I have received the 15 caps to replace those on the power supply board, so that is next step.

Hi everyone, so I replaced all 15 electrolytics on the PS board and reset voltages. Everything dialed in nicely. About the last thing to do is mount replacement glass. I was considering what kind of glue to use and then came upon this video where the guy uses thin, double-sided tape to attach glass to faceplate. Other than getting it aligned accurately for the tuner shaft, any other thoughts on attaching the glass? Glue vs tape?

With everything back together last night, things were going well with full power (no dim bulb). Played a few songs, then played things at half volume and into the 2nd song, relay clicked and shut off speakers. Heatsink was quite hot. Let things cool down 10 minutes and music played fine at lower volumes. Did not try and crank it up again.

This morning, I pulled and tested all 8 outputs and they appear to pass DVM tests. (and explain why I can still play music)

So I went back to check voltages and the DC Balance Adjustment (points 4 left & 17 right) are no longer steady at 0, but fluctuating wildly on both channels between -.3V and +.3V.

Idle Current (points 2 & 6 on left and 15 & 19 on right) are both fairly steady around 35 mV, (I had them set at 50mV yesterday).

Again, music is playing fine on both channels at low volume.

Supply voltages at points 10 and 14 coming from Power Supply Circuit Assembly (where I replaced the 15 caps) is -50V and +50V (should be -60V and +60V).

I'll go back and start checking other transistor voltages on the PA board. Anything else I should check?

No, no difference. And voltage fluctuations are +10 to -10 mV (not .3V). They start high but then after a minute, go down and jump between +-10mV on both channels.

I pulled Q3 and Q4 as points 4 and 17 lead to those transistors first. Q3 passes volt meter test, but registers no hfe gain with my component tester. Q4 registers hfe of 495. Data sheet indicates it should 430-450, max 1000, min 190-225, so Q4 might be ok. Looks like I'll proceed to replace all of these smaller transistors afterall. If I'm going to pull each to test it, I might as well install a new one. Yeah, TSD71 suggested this back on thread #10 :)

So, in ordering replacement/equivalent transistors outlined by TSD71 in thread #10, all of the original small transistors appear to be case style TO-92, while some of the identified equivalents appear to be case style TO-126. will this be an issue, or are they ok as long as I align pins correctly?

Some of the TO-92 bjts are beefed up to a TO-126 package, (like the relay driver) just get the pinouts correct and you should be fine.

Ok. Replaced the remaining 20 transistors on Amp board. Voltages dialed in but tend to stray. Both the 0v and 50mV settings. But they just go up and down a few mV. Stray less when warmed up.

I noticed also that the small heat sinks on both the Amp board and power supply board get pretty hot to the touch. Is this normal? The main heatsink does not get as hot.

This sounds as normal operation. Changes of .001 to .003 volts is not an issue.
Describe pretty hot, a heat sink is used because the component needs help dissipating heat so it will stay at a temperature that will not cause it to go into thermal runaway
I would guess that if the voltages are all at the correct level you are just fine.

Just measured them after playing for about 30 minutes at low volume. 9 o'oclock position.

The 2 on the Amp board and the larger one on Power Supply board are all about 118-120 degrees F.
