Teac X-7R problem

Hi there, I have a Teac Reel to Reel and there are two rollers on either side of the play/record heads that don't drop down. This is making it impossible to load tape. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with a simple fix? Should I take it apart and start monkeying with it?

Thanks!

Yep, very common issue with all varieties of TEAC decks, caused by dried up grease gumming up the works. Yours is a dual capstan transport similar to an X1000R, there are some very clear detailed instructions on repairing the sticky pinch roller linkage on that type of transport. Not all of this info pertains to your machine of course but the basic pinch roller linkage info does:

The link is fixed! You couldn't see the pictures for awhile. I lobbied to have a version of this for the "A" series decks, at tapeheads, and was met with belligerence and apathy. This link was very helpful with my X-700R. Glad it's back.
