Technics RS-B33W - Playback from the Record tape (tape 2)?

I have a Technics RS-B33W that I was hoping worked because it looks so nice.

All of the belts / bands are intact and seem to work fine.

However, Tape 2 is generating a VERY weak playback signal (as in, if you turn the volume all the way up, it's only a faint whisper).

I can't find any type of owner's manual so help me ... is Tape 2 supposed to playback just like Tape 1?

Well from what I gather that was a silly question and it SHOULD play normally from either Tape 1 or Tape 2. Not sure this thing's worth the time to figure out what's wrong.
