The DAP Sony A-45...pros/cons

After having the Sony Walkman A-45 for a short time, thought to share some of its features.

Pros
The unit was much smaller than I expected (deck of cards), not much bigger than the NZ-385 that I had, which is tiny.

The sound from the A-45 is really remarkable, esp in the FLAC mode.

The unit can handle a 128GB SD card, and rumoured to be able to handle bigger ones.

Battery on it does last a decent time, and good for several nights of 4 hours usage, at 50% vol.

Bluetooth hook up is easily established and stays connected. The range reaches 30ft with no prob.

Brightness is no prob, but has to be set at least 70%.

Connectivity with several sources is not prob.

Cost factor is pretty good for what you get.

Build is really sturdy, and can take a lot of knocks.

Cons.
The menus are tricky and confusing at time...even after two months of use.

Individual sound set up is convoluted, so went with just the one "ideal" best sound check off mode.

Seems to take forever for the unit to set up its data base and be played.

Manual is often difficult to follow, even with detailed info.

Screen could have been bigger than what was offered.

Tricky to shut down, and if not done right, you have little charge left for the next day.

Setup of SD card can be tricky on first attempt.

For the money, compared to what's out there, it is an entry level mp3 player with high res, but does its job well. In retro, I'd have spent a bit more and went for an upper level Sony unit, but at $220 Amer. it is what it is.
