The Moody Blues "Seventh Sojourn"

Just got the SACD that was produced from the original quad tapes in 1972. After my first listen through it, all I can say is that some recordings are best for mono, some for stereo, and some for quad. Listening through my Pioneer quad unit leaves no doubt "Seventh Sojourn" was meant for quad, and it was great in stereo.

Yeah, the Deluxe Editions (SACD) of all of the "early" Moodies are quite nice, tho they do sound like a different mix ...

Great pics!

I will look for the other 6. Seventh is the only one I have seen. I remember having it demo'd from a quad lp back in 1972 in a high end audio store using bozak speakers and was in awe of it then.

I have their 2005 DVD "Lovely to see you". It is a well done dvd and has a very high end surround mix.

Kind of an older fan - saw the Every Good Boy tour in Baltimore and 7th Sojourn tour at the Omni theater in Atlanta ... and one of the shows in the 80s after they reunited.

If you like their early stuff, def grab all the SACDs!

I'm jealous! I like some of the Moodies stuff after they reunited, but it's the first 7 that I'm all about!
Was told Justin Hayward was one of the guitarists in the Sandy relief concert on TV the other night. Had to dvr it, and haven't had time to sit and watch it yet.

I have been a fan of the Moodies since the 1969. I have their entire discography except for the quad stuff. I was off in the Navy when the Quad records started to come out. I was aware of the Quad "Days of Future Passed" but never found a record store that had a copy. When I returned to Wyoming it was going to the University of Wyoming. In Laramie, at the time I could get any record I wanted as long as it was on the Sh*t Kicking Label. I am curious so many of the QS format records I had where mixed to beat you over the head that you where listening to 4, count them 4 channels. How where the Moodies treated?

I only heard "Seventh Sojourn" in QS. Not sure if it was real to real or lp, but like I said earlier the Moodies are a natural for QS. I think that "Seventh" was the only bonafide QS release at the time of the initial album release in 1972. The earlier albums would have released QS formats through reworking the original mixes. Hjames said the earlier Moodie albums mixed into QS are "a different mix". I have not heard them yet in SACD so my quest begins to secure the remaining six.
Of note, the "Seventh" SACD states it is in 5.1 when in actuality as one reads further it was produced and is a replication from the original QS tapes. I set up the playback through front and rear and did not include center. I suppose I should check if there is a center playback available. Since I run a vintage Pioneer Quad unit, I use a separate amp for the center channel. I do not run a sub as my KLH 5's do quite well in providing all the dynamic depth I need, and my KLH 17's are perfect for the rears.
I also saw Pink Floyd in 1972, Wichita,Ks perform Dark Side of the Moon prior to its release. Even back then, they had a very sophisticated sound system that enveloped the entire arena. That concert was one for the books!

Listened to it today, brought back a memory of me and two school chums getting high around 3:00 in the morning,we had just unwrapped the album when all hell broke loose outside his room. Paramedics were going down the hallway,my friends Mom passed away in her sleep. :sigh:

Amazing how we hear a certain song or artist and things we haven't thought about in a long time come rushing back at us.
Mostly good times for me during my Moodies and Floyd years. Marriage, raising a family, and career kind of put all of that on the back burner. Kids are out of the house, viagra seems to be working, taking in a few concerts again. Not too bad!

I listen in MONO and its excellent :)

I love the Moodies and 7th is the last classic album from them but there were a few other hits and lots of misses through the 80's.

I have most of them in SACD. IMO, "Days of Future Past" is the best of the lot.

Still trying to get Wish You Were Here (PF) for <$55 USED.

To me, it is hard to justify spending $100+ for this disk when I can get it in stereo for 1/10th the price and turn on the surround effects. Obviously not the same, but $100 difference can buy ~3 SACD/DVD-Audio disks
