Hi Everyone. I had recently noticed a drop in sound quality from my Marantz 2230, perceiving it to be weak in both bass grunt and treble clarity. Sure enough connecting the pre outs into my Rotel RB980 power amp made a huge all round improvement in sound.
The 2230 is an early model from 1972 and has been partially recapped by the previous owner. Preamp was fully recapped, phono stage transistors replaced, and then suspect dodgy caps replaced throughout. Given that the preamp still sounds OK but amp itself sounds poor, would a good place to start be the big power and cap coupling caps, followed by all electrolytics on the amp board?
Anyone have any experience or advance on cap types (open flood gates.... )
Cheers, Jon
