Not really a separate thread for this. I'm envisioning a far-reaching scope here, encompassing various forms of "experimental" music...whether it flirts with while simultaneously subverting traditional forms, is free-form, is atonal, or is noise. We could split this up into various sub-styles (experimental rock, experimental classical, experimental jazz, experimental electronic, etc.), but I'm not sure if there is enough interest on the board to have individual threads for those various forms. If there is, I'd gladly have this thread die, and those individual forms have their own dedicated threads. Let's allow interest be the determining factor.

I'll start with a few that I've been listening to lately, across various genres.

    Merzbow
    Pulse Demon
    1996

Probably the most avant-garde and difficult record of their long and challenging journey:

    Pere Ubu
    The Art of Walking
    1980
    (Rough Trade)

    The poppy side of avant-garde.
