Nope, it's not as good as the first one (but how many albums are?). It's actually a compilation of previously released Peterson tracks on Verve, including two from "Night Train." So, people in those days who didn't read the fine print may have been disappointed.... My guess is Verve wanted to capitalize on Night Train's success. My main reasons for buying it were:
1. I grew up listening to Oscar (my mother was a big fan of his), and I like so much of what he did. I've heard his music as far back as I can remember. "Night Train 2" selections are from his prime (50's - 60's).
2. The record wasn't expensive and is in much better than my vinyl copy of "Night Train," which I really need to replace with a better copy.
So, the music's really good, but it's not an essential album, especially if you have other Peterson records.
