Bill Holmans Great Big Band.jpg

Bill Holman's Great Big Band
Creative World 1053 Stereo (and it shows), a re-issue of Capitol a 1961 recording of the same name. While there is no date on the CW release, I'd say early to mid-70s.
Picked this up a record expo over the weekend. It is a worthy release. If you've ever wondered what a really Great Big Band sounds like working together, this is the LP. Stand out names in the ersatz Big Band are Mel Lewis, Bill Perkins and Richie Kamuca, Conte Condoli, Frank Rosalino, Jimmy Rowles. Bill Holman was a name unknown to me until a week ago when I bought Shelly Manne's 'More Swinging Sounds' LP. Holman was a composer and a four part piece of his fills side two of Mann's LP, quite nicely too. I saw this and was intrigued with the line up and took a chance. This release is keyed to my system or something because I cannot recommend this enough. I've bought a bunch of vinyl in the past month, this is without a doubt the standout buy.
