John Zorn ~ Azazel - Book of Angels, Vol. 2

About halfway through this one and there has been only one tune on the 'skip this next time' list. I still don't know why they intersperse the avant-garde noise stuff on recordings that are otherwise quite accessible and beautiful. Whoops, now we are up to three tracks...

    Nothing objectionable on this one.

A big Zorn fan here, and I really like a lot of the avant-noise stuff, but that's a listening path I've actively pursued for just about all my listening history (i.e. HS and beyond). There is a lot of wonderful music to be found in his catalog, but getting acclimated to the aural landscape takes some work and a bit of risk taking. I had an internet friend start showing me the way about 15 years ago and I've not looked back. I'll happily follow this thread and take part in the discussions later this week, right now I'm enjoying a phono preamp upgrade that yielded more than expected dividends. There is a lot of more accessible Zorn material to be had, much of more recent vintage.

Givin' me the notion to maybe spin one of his Naked City-period albums, starting (probably) with the one entitled Naked City, or maybe the one entitled Torture Garden. I like all of the Naked City-era material.

Absolutely LOVE this one - discovered it via Amazon streaming one Saturday afternoon,
and have since bought copies for a number of my friends ...
fantastic road trip music as well!

AlleyKat (Sweet Old Bill) turned me onto The Dreamers back in 2011 and I have been listening to or trying to listen to much of Zorn's stuff since. He is hard to keep up with as he has released so many recordings and they are so varied in style.

Bar Kokhba ~ Lucifer: The Book of Angels, Vol. 10

This is one that I just discovered recently as it is one of only a few that are on TIDAL. The Lucifer tidal is somewhat misleading as it is very accessible. One reviewer said that this is one of the few Zorn recordings that he could play for his Grandmother.

    The Dreamers - O'o

The Dreamers are what Zorn's Electric Masada project morphed into following the original Masada projects. The description of the music that came with the CD "...combining world music, surf, exotica, soundtracks, easy listening, minimalism and more...." really nails it. Bright, simmering and sunny music perfect for summer listening, O'o has been one of my favorites in the Zorn catalog from the first time I gave it a spin.

I'd started my suggestion of O'o before you posted AlleyKat's comment, but had to put it aside to take care of things around the house. You can add Ipos - Book of Angels Volume 14 and Pellucidar to the list of Dreamers releases. I certainly recommend them.
