Mono?! Probably a Generation ahead of me (loved it when my parents would spin Sinatra), but listened to his music very frequently over the past 15 years, that song being a favorite. I never noticed. Hell, I think that I may as well sell my various systems, and get a 1970's Era turntable speaker inside a little box! :whip::wtf:
    P.S., how is this possible?

Now for something completely different. Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein, Columbia CL 1466 promo released in 1960 and recorded in December 1959 when Leonard Bernstein conducted the premier of Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra by Dave's brother Howard Brubeck. This covers side one, with the New York Philharmonic playing it straight and the Brubeck Quartet providing the improvisations required by the composition.

In a post recording session Paul Desmond suggested that Brubeck playing Bernstein compositions would make a fine complement for the Dialogues. Bernstein sat down at the piano and started playing his suggestions for the repertoire. The result is side two with the quartet playing Maria, I Feel Pretty, Somewhere, A Quiet Girl, and Tonight. A different, and certainly interesting recorded collaboration.

Angel Eyes - One of my favorites, and I recently found I am in good company, as the album notes by Matt Dennis say that the title song is a favorite of Ella Fitzgerald, who was one of the first to help Matt get this song off the ground. Columbia CL 2348, in glorious two "eye" mono from 1965. Have to admit, though I bought it for the song, I do like the cover too. ;)

In case you want to know, the model is Terry Reno, and this quote from AKer pryzgodagirl tells an interesting story. "Terry Reno was a friend of mine when i lived in Laguna. She told me that she had done a photo shoot for a photographer totally unrelated to any record. When the first album came out she was shocked to see it was her on the cover. Supposedly someone working for the photographer pinched the negatives and that's how she ended up on those covers. She never gave permission and wasn't compensated for those covers. Still, they are what has endured over the years, much more than the Seventeen magazine covers, spreads and ads she did. A really great person." An interesting coincidence - this was posted on December 5, 2012, the day Dave died.

Well, I've been through all the Columbia Brubeck albums, and the early Fantasy (most in colored vinyl) which brings me back to this Fantasy compilation of some of the earliest recordings. Stardust, Fantasy 24728 from 1983. The recordings were made in San Francisco between August 1951 and September 1952, except for a few songs recorded in Berkeley in March 1954. Originally released as Fantasy LP 3229 and 3230, this later version is very very nice. And yes, released 1983, and yes it is in mono.
