TRQ 2040D only plays one channel

OK, so here's my first plea for help. I just got a dusty Hitachi TRQ 2040D for a few bucks. Cleaned it up and powered it on. The right meter jumps when hitting play, then immediately hits 100%. Both channels work when I plug in headphones, so I think I can rule out a bad head (?) Any advice for a relative newbie on getting that channel working, or is it the board?

This looks like another "record / play switch" needs cleaning. Open the machine up and look for a mechanical link ( likely a rod ) from the "record" key to a metal switch box on the circuit board. Spray that switch box with contact cleaner and work it back & forth 30 or 40 times. Should clear up the problem.
