In the MPX AF amp section on the pioneer TX 9100 there are two(per channel) 2.2uf 16v electrolytic caps back to back (+/- - /+). do you think the tuner would benefit from replacing these with one (per channel) 1.2uf polypro cap ? thanks

If the polypro fits, yes. Myself I used 1.5 uF MKT alike one ( I just happen to have many 1.5uF around).
I was adviced by the Pioneer specialists here replace all those solid aluminium Sanyos and it turned out they were ALL (generally much) more leaky than normal alu electrolytics (although the sound was still good before the recap). So they age really bad.

Thanks, I have never done this in the tuner section before. I am familiar with those Sanyos . They have a high failure rate also.

I have reach the MPX board and there are two 6.8uf caps going to the low pass filter. The SM has them as electrolytic ,they look like tantalums with stripes. How critical is the 6.8uf value ,it can't be dead on ? I was thinking about a 10uf here . Any suggestions ?

Is what you plan to do going to affect the alignment? If it is going to affect your alignment, then give a good consideration on whether to pull it off. Alignments take sophisticated equipment and good techs and it is quite expensive.
