Ever tried playing his licks?

Oh man, it's McLaughlin w/ that crazy "drone strings crossed @ 45-degree angle" geetar. IIRC that's about the only instrument he used @ the band Shakti.

As for playing his licks, it's difficult enough w/ a standard-tuned 6-string instrument. He makes Metal's so-called master sweep-pickers sound like slow-motion players. Although he did demonstrate on his LP called Johnny McLaughlin, Electric Guitarist that he can slow things down and lay out rich, tasty lines.

That is a fine collection. I play it more than the Mahavishnu Orchestra albums now.
