Updating PHP on the server

PHP? Useless. Without HTTPS, the standard for over a decade now, and what all major browsers require even for the most basic security, especially using any JAVA scripts, speed and stability is a moot point. Im no programmer just read the news that is now common knowledge.

No offense, but its obvious you are not a web programmer. To start with the basics -
Do not confuse JAVA with javascript, they are completely different things.

Let the folks who run the site do what they know is best.

the only php upgrade issue I have ever hit was IIRC 6, (im using 5.3 for my biz web presence) as there was an incompatibility with javascript so I had my host un-upgrade me
 
you may be right...I had to set up my account to only do upgrades on my say so and they allow -2 levels at no cost
