Victoria BC - Vancouver Island Deal Alerts

AP-206 was 1978 - 1979, apparently near Akai's top of the line at the time, according to the web. Arm reported by some to be a bit heavy. Did the seller indicate what cartridge is offered?

By the way, I picked up a Sansui SC-3330 today - big brother to the SC-1100. I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but it was sitting on the top of a metal recyle bin behind one of the thrift shops. Power cord was cut off so I don't hold out too much hope .... but it might be something as simple as a blown fuse, new belts or dirty switches / pots.

value village had a Sony STR-3200 last night.

Man, I wish I could find a nice local Technics sl-1800mk2 ...

It is a STR-3800 and appears to be in nice condition. Lights up and the tuning meters seem to move appropriately.

Sansui AU-717 Integrated and SP-3700 Speakers

http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/11199746

He wants $500 for all.

The AU-717 is 1977 vintage, 85 wpc and well respected. I can't tell from the picture if this one has rack handles with it. It does look like it needs a cleaning.

The SP-3700's are a 4-way 5-speaker setup rated to 120 watts, with top-firing + front-firing horns (see the grill in the top of the speaker). Heavy duty / real wood veneer enclosures. I think about 1975 vintage. Not to everyone's taste but still well regarded.

Apparently also has a pair of Wharfdale TSR112 (don't know if they are the 70's 112's or the 80's 112.2's) wanting $800.

Poineer Amp and Tuner + Cassette??

Beacon Community Services has a SA-750 amp and the matching tuner with a cartridge load cd-player as a package deal for $65. The amp is 70 or 75wpc. Amp and Tuner include the manuals.

They had the matching cassette in the back as well, but it wasn't working - may just need belts .... and maybe it's still there ... maybe it's in the dumpster.

Anyway the amp and tuner get decent reviews, are compact, etc. I'd offer them $50 without the cd-player.

Just curious, which "Beacon Community Services" outlet?

I see the NAD has sold, quickly...

Oops ... I thought I had said Sidney. "Thrift on Fourth" - the one with furniture in it also has the electronics. The other BCS outlet is on 3rd and is the general stuff - including vinyl, cassettes and CD's - great if you want that rare Firestone XMas album.

The Realistic STA-80 has been sold. BCS has 50% off all speakers right now ... but they are all junk.

The Kenwood and the Sony receivers are gone from Value Village. I helped a young fellow test out the STR-3800 and steered another away from making a bad purchase of fuzzy carpeted speakers or Made in Canada Sony's with damaged cones and possibly 1 frozen woofer.

Was also in talking to the guys at Adams Electronics on 4th in Sidney. They have various used stuff at times .... I don't think they have anything great at the moment .... a NAD cassette deck I remember .... but they do get some interesting stuff - there was a Carver receiver there recently and apparently I missed a Linn Axis there by 1 day! They have a Sansui AU-777 in for repair right now .... 1st time I have seen one in real life ... very nice. I haven't had any repairs done by them but Derrick there helped me find the new output transistors for my AU-4400 .... very helpful and friendly.

The person up in Nanaimo that has the various Yamaha stuff for sale also has some Marantz equipment .... in varying need of repair .... 1150D, 4230 and 2330b, as well as a Pioneer TX-6800 and a HK-560 + other assorted stuff ... wow .... guess someone's significant-other found the secret panel to the storage room!

Finally http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/ele/1588807270.html is a Dual 1237 early model with 2 Shure cartridges - $80.
