Victoria BC - Vancouver Island Deal Alerts

Sorry ... I already have one. And I 'saved' the Technics SU-8080 from the downtown SA already this week.

I also picked up a Yamaha PF-20 turntable free from freecycle. Super light mid-80's piece of #$!!@. But I am thinking of using the platter for a record cleaning "turntable".

and ... quite a bit of vinyl this week from various outlets - Motels, Carly Simon, Loverboy, Mellencamp, Streethart, Police, Journey, Steve Milller, Ink Spots, Duran Duran, Honeymoon Suite and an April Wine.

Martin.ca .... the Pioneer SA-750 and tuner is gone from BCS .... did you get it?

I emailed the seller and asked about the actual speakers, since the pic was copied from Used Ottawa (A70 series II).
Seller said they were the 6 ohm flavour.
I guess you have to be a "speaker aficionado" to know that as well!
Too bad the seller didn't post an actual image of the speakers.
Those are great speakers, but something is just not right about the ad.

He wants $500 for all.

The AU-717 is 1977 vintage, 85 wpc and well respected. I can't tell from the picture if this one has rack handles with it. It does look like it needs a cleaning.

The SP-3700's are a 4-way 5-speaker setup rated to 120 watts, with top-firing + front-firing horns (see the grill in the top of the speaker). Heavy duty / real wood veneer enclosures. I think about 1975 vintage. Not to everyone's taste but still well regarded.

Apparently also has a pair of Wharfdale TSR112 (don't know if they are the 70's 112's or the 80's 112.2's) wanting $800.
Hi: Sealy here. The amp is actually worth about $350 in my opinion. I've had some experience with Sansui components. The 4-digit series is the more desirable series, if you can find them, although the AU-717 is a fine amp, make no mistake.

Yamaha / PSB at VV

There is a decent-looking CR-420 at Value Village for $50. 25 wpc.

And a set of PSB 500 speakers for $130 - not such a great deal in my mind, but seem to be well-respected.

The AU-717 and speakers from usedvictoria have sold.

Value Village prices are outrageous. I don't see how anything sells there, but someone seems to buy it. I wish I could sell speakers with destroyed tweeters, rotted foam and rough cabinets for $100. :scratch2:

Yeah I know ... all sales final as well. Sometimes a really good deal .... I picked up a flat screen wall mount for $10 few weeks ago .... with all the parts. My Sansui AU-4400 is from there - I think it was $30. I bet if I go back next week the PSB's will still be there .... but with the tweeters destroyed.

... but hey, let's not turn this thread into a thrift store rant.

Here's a question - what is your favourite Victoria or Vancouver Island thrift?

.... my vote is Beacon Community Services in Sidney on 4th.

We have Value Villages down here too, & the one I go to most is pretty reasonable, most of the time. But they have a pretty steady turnover of employees, & a lot of stuff goes through, so they just kinda go through the motions, to get their paycheck, without a lot of thought as to actual value. That's where I got my NS-1000Ms, so don't give up, ya never know. :smoke:

I like the Thrift on 4th store. I always stop in if I'm in the area. There's a cool one on the way to Duncan in Whippletree junction, but they've raised their prices. They have some cool stuff like vintage arcade games. Last time I was there I bought a Thorens TD-150 for $60, which I thought was score-worthy. They even had a BSA chopper that was straight out of the 60's for $3500. There's a junk shop in Duncan called Good Neighbours that is fun to dig through. I miss the old Salvation Army on Quadra, I picked up some good finds there.
