In response to your question, I'd love to have those people join up on AK! It can only serve to make the experience better for all of us. My only policy regarding advertising is only that of spamming....a corporate interest just coming in to spam the classifieds section for example. Anyone promoting their business is fine by me as long as they're contributing knowledge to the site.
And the one vital instrument with flame wars on other sites is not having to be a registered member to post. Here, you have to register, and confirm your email address to be allowed to post. That kind of thing scares off trolls for the most part, who like to remain anonymous.
