Weekly Estate and Garage sale finds (pics)

My $20 estate sale Dell computer is getting better and better. The processor is a quad core. Upgraded to Win 10 Pro. Upped the memory to 12mb. Core2 quad does not have video support so 1080p 60 fps was no good. Trolled craigers and found a PCI-e 2gb video card for $35. It is configured for SFF and has HDMI. Video is great now. Everything is snappier and faster now that the graphics card is doing the work. Simply amazing for so little money. Geek mode off...for now.

Geek mode on for a final thought on my $20 estate sale Dell. I max'ed out the RAM to 16GB which gives some added overhead and speed. I have a WiFi USB antenna and an internal Dell card reader on order. I'm mighty tempted to swap the Q9400 CPU for a Q9650 which is TOTL but that would only be to appease the upgrade bug. Performance is fine as is. For what I do, this setup works as well as my i7-4790 Dell.

Great score. Clean Fishers integrateds are very hard to find. If you have to cash out, I would sell the 200-B and the Knight. Find some replacements for the Fisher branded Telefunkens for an added bonus. I have a lifetime supply of Tele 12AX7's. And for goodness sakes, keep the LK-72B.
Sam, how do you think the LK-72 compares to the Fisher? If it does get sold, I already have a buyer in the form of a very close friend. Should I hold off on that?

And yeah, the Knight is going as soon as I have time to list it. It only has the 12ax7's, so I'm not going to invest in tubes for an amp I have no interest in. Not trying to violate rules here, but I know this is D&S, so what do you think would be a decent price for the unrestored Knight?

I own two LK-72B's, a LK-72, two Fisher 500's and an 800. All are 7159. IMO, the Scott's are clear winners for having tube rectifiers. The Fishers including your integrated are solid state rectified. This being said, I will not be selling my Fishers. They are interesting to me from a collecting standpoint. If I can score an integrated like you did, I would sell a 500. The Fisher going to a close friend would change my thought as it is sort of staying in the family. Anyways, yours is a good problem to have.

Does anyone know what the best antenna would be for FM reception on the FM-200b? The one I have works pretty well, but it's not perfect. Would an amplified antenna be a boon or a hindrance in the Philly suburbs with tons of signals around?

I picked up dual Dual turntables from a garage sale this last weekend - a 1009 SK2 with an Empire 2300 Z Cartridge and a 510 with a Grado Green for a total of $10.

The owner told me they needed work. He wasn't sure about the issues with the 1009, it had belonged to his buddy. He said the 510 had one channel that was intermittent. I'm not much of a tech, but I thought for $10, it could be worth a shot a fun experiment.

Checked out the 1009 first and was only getting one channel, which sounded distorted. These are my first Duals, and a quick search led me to the headshell problems these have. I cleaned off the headshell contacts, swapped out the RCAs and cleaned those contacts. Voila - getting good signal on both channels.

Cleaned, oiled, and lubed everything and it's sounding pretty great! It is running just a hair fast - still working on that. I didn't think this would be able to knock off my current turntable - a Thorens TD 166 MK II with a Grado G1+ cart, but I think I might have a new primary table! (I think it is mostly the difference between the carts).

I haven't fooled with the 510 much. I cleaned the headshell contacts before testing it out and it seems to be working fine.

That's a beautiful plinth on that 1009.

Yeah, it was in good shape. It had a little fading/discoloration in the finish. It also looked like maybe a cleaning arm had been stuck on at one point, but no chips or deep scratches.

I just gave it a light, fine sanding, a coat of Howard Restore-A-Finish, and then some Feed-N-Wax.

Heathkit amplifier carcass as found in the wild buried beneath a table at an estate sale for $5 with knobs, wood case, and Assembly Manual, but sans front panel window so I'm looking for a front panel window (Part# 446-35-1) for a potential restoration.

I've got one of those and the matching tuner here. Mine have painted metal cases rather than the wood.
I've never heard it play but man is it heavy to carry around.

Garage sale this morning. JVC 4VR-5456 Quad receiver. 100 w/ch stereo and 43 w/ch in quad. It looks like it just came out of the box-beautiful. Everything works including lights. $40. I also got a Fenwick FSC85 fishing rod to add to my collection of 140 fiberglass Fenwick rods. Also excellent condition. $10

Apparently the AA-43 tuner/AA-21 amp combo came in several cabinet flavors: an optional tan vinyl-clad steel for $6.95 or walnut veneer cabinet for $12.95.
