So a few years ago I got a nice pair of "Radio People" W70Ds from another AKer for the best possible price. After a good scrubbing, some oil, a little new batting in one that had gotten a little wet, and some new caps they were great EXCEPT for the reason he was getting rid of them in the first place - the donuts had physically fallen off the tweets (early, no retainers) and when I pulled the grilles off and retrieved them, both were cracked so no chance of saving them (although I probably still have them somewhere, just in case someone ever repro's the cones. Donuts. Whatever.)
A couple days ago I received in the mail some later donuts with the plastic retainers from another AKer and would like to put these in my W70Ds in place of the Morels that I threw in them to make them work, so my Wharfedales will be 100% correct again. However the one that I unpacked does have wiring on it but the solder joints do not appear to be factory and there are no polarity markings on them. How can I determine polarity of these tweeters, or does anyone know what it is? Just don't want to screw this up, and I don't know that the battery on the terminals trick will result in perceptible movement of a tweeter - or will it?
This is pretty much the only "low power" pair of speakers that I have, and I would like to resurrect some tube gear, so this is definitely something that I want to do.
thanks!
