Thanks man....select pine from Lowes. Sanded down finely. I looked at the poplar and oak but decided to try pine first and it took the stain rather well. Believe me if I can do it, I know you can!

I wouldn't have guessed it was pine. That Plantation stain is a great shade. You achieved a very rich finish.
