What CD Player Do You Use?

I need to apologize. I had my mind on my PD-65s.
What's cool about those and the lesser PD-54 I had was the "stable platter" where the CD is placed upside down on a solid, padded "turntable" free from indirect laser scatter.

Jolida Fusion DAC Transport (single disk), which I like a whole lot, sent it in last week for a Level 1 upgrade, should be back early next week.
It is was very close to equal with my Yamaha YP800 w/Audio Technica VM760SLC cartridge before the upgrade.
Pure tube, no op amps in a DAC that has a transport for CD playing as well. With a fully balanced circuit and six tubes in the signal path, this player brings definition in clarity without any loss of smoothness.

Check it out here: http://www.jolida.com/product/fusion-dac-transport

Get a load of this old dog. A Sony CDP-701ES. I think it’s their first dual dac unit, two of the chips used in the 101 with a better filter. May 1984! It looks like a museum piece and getta load of the docs! Box and spare laser too.
She’s a little squirrelly, I’d bet old caps have parts of the unit running at marginal voltage or worse. New caps will be in order in the power supply and sub supplies.
It sounds shockingly good. I recall the same feeling about the first one of these I owned.

The reason why so many modern players are slow on load and seek is due to code being written in Java, instead of dedicated H/W chips and fast firmware written assembly or machine code.

That said, the aforementioned Yamaha is a very nice unit.

That’s interesting. I never knew that

Onkyo C-S5VL SACD main system, Onkyo C7030 in the bedroom, and a Marantz 5005 in the living room system. I like both of the Onk's better than the Marantz as it sounds a little bright to me. I prefer wasting my money on amps, speakers and media.

Agreed. And I am working out the details, so I’m not screwed for the deal here. If I can, I’ll just put this in a bin for a later date when I’m not so busy and sort it out then. Can’t be too difficult, something isn’t filtering a noise seems to be the main issue. Plus the two drawer belts.
This has been sorted for a good while now. There were indeed a host of issues, but everything was found and repaired. It’s a good player, to say the very least.

All my CD playback is based on BluRay players. My bedroom system uses a Sony BDP-S360, my mainfloor system is a Sony UXP800 4K player, and my basement system is a Yamaha BD-S681 4K up scaling player.

Posted in Dec. 2014, so 4 years later an update. Bedroom system am using a Magnavox CDB 560, sold the Philips CD 40. Living room Sylvania CDB 1560 modified by Van Austin, was originally in the man cave. In the man cave Philips CDB 630 and Magnavox CDB 583 currently inactive as man cave used as a storage room.
