Be it camping close to home or jetting off half way across the globe, what is the one spot that keeps calling you back? And if you are compelled to do so tell us why.
For me it has been Vegas the last 6 years.
After the yearly trip I tell myself, I am not going back next year and 5 months later I find I am ready to go back.

Acadia. Good hiking, nice scenery, cool weather, cheap lobster. Great place to go in the summer.

Beautiful place in the fall.
I prefer going on the shoulders of the season. The only problems with going towards the fall is the blueberries are wiped out and the seasonal workers are over it. But far less chance of getting rained out.

It seems I go different places and say I will go back...well I have been to Littlerock/HotSprings and St Louis area several times...

San Diego, Tucson, North Rim, Gallup, Albuquerque, Big Bend area. Oh Big Bend is another multiple times.

I want to hit London and Prague sometime.

Santa Cruz. Hasn't changed that much in the 60+ years we've been going there. Nothing spectacular - just a neat place.

Maui
It's a 2nd home. My family has been there since 1880s. The beaches, forests, mountains, the surf, the food and the people are the best. Maui No Ka Oi!

The Eastern Sierra + Yosemite
Fly fishing for nearly every kind of trout possible. World class rock climbing, bouldering, skiing and mountaineering. Endless hiking, mountain biking and exploring. Schat's Bakery, arguably the best bakery in the West. Hot springs in the middle of the Owen's Valley with a billion stars at night.

The Pacific Northwest.
From Northern California to Washington. I love exploring the rivers and streams for winter steelhead fly fishing. It's a magical and exhilarating time to be on the water.

Lake Tahoe + Surrounding Area
For summer, hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, fly fishing and SUPing, For winter snow sports, it's ever more fun. Snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow mobiling, hiking with snow shoes and occasionally snow camping. The casinos and shows can be fun on the Nevada side too.

With the exception of Maui, in a good year, I get out to these place 2-4+ times each.

I was surfing in Santa Cruz/Capitola yesterday. It's only 1/2 hour drive on a good day. The 65 year run of the Begonia Festival ended this past weekend. An art friend called it the Burning Man on water.

Big Pine Key....my friend has place down there & I visit during the winter when it's not so hot.....we do lots of fishing in his boat & from kayaks.....it's a IMG_1387.JPG IMG_1453.JPG IMG_1470.JPG IMG_1558.JPG IMG_1414.JPG IMG_1417.JPG blast!

I prefer road trips with the camper to flying somewhere. That said, we do go to Kauai every winter for a couple weeks. This is due to my wife more than me but I do like it once I get off the airplane!
I never see large cities as a vacation destination, but more of an obstacle to be avoided if at all possible.
Some of my favorite places to go with the camper has been Washington State east of the Cascades (great hiking off season) British Columbia, Alberta (along the Rockies) and much of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Close by we take the camper just over the border into Canada which would be northern BC and camp out in the Haines pass. We sometimes do this in the winter as well as the camper has a good heater in it, and we like to ski and snowshoe..

Future trips I want to do is to do is to explore the inside passage with a smallish live aboard boat (30-40 footer) from Vancouver Island to home here in northern SE Alaska. Thousands of islands, anchor spots, could gunkhole all summer long! Someday I want to do this, the top of my vacation bucket list!

I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea, probably why we often have all that beauty to ourselves!
