What Is Your Favorite Integrated Amp?

The pioneer A88X in my garage. I am glad that the walls have 2x6 construction. Have only had a hanful of int amps but its the only one I kept, sounds great and seemingly unlimited power, although I cant stand it over a quarter turn.

Lost Love

You never get over your first love and mine was a Nikko NA-550 integrated bought new in 1977.

For me now it's the 1979 Sansui AU-X1.This beast is just incredible sounding and the build quality inside and out is just plain awesome.

It hasn't acquired favorite status for me yet but it is my latest. Acquired on Ebay for $102 plus shipping Onkyo A-9911 Anniversary Issue.

Not really vintage, but nothing I've ever heard can beat the Sony TA-F808ES MOSFET integrated amp. Has everything, including terrific sound.
This is an encouraging comment for me. I recently purchased a broken Sony F808ES. It is currently in the shop being repaired for about $200. I hope its worth the investment. If I can't find a remote I will have to find a remote from that era that will at least operate the volume.

I like this little Pioneer, which may very well be the only one in the USA, since it's a Japan-only, 100VAC unit.

After owning a number of integrated amps, I have been using a Cyrus Two with the PSX auxiliary power supply for a couple of years now. This thing is strange - it's made up of two chassis (shoebox size) with two power cords, and the "Two" unit has two selector (source/record) knobs and a gain knob. It is super minimalist, you see. The headphone jack is in the back, and the RCA jacks face up. With the PSX connected, the power supply in the "Two" powers the preamp section, and the more massive (by far) power supply of the PSX powers the power amp section, yielding a high-current 70 watt amp with good sound overall, but with amazing bass control.

The only one I own is a 1988 Marantz PM-74D. 105 watts per channel factory specs. Stereo Reviews' lab tests showed the amp putting out 132 watts per channel into 8 ohm loads, for a clipping headroom of 1.2 db. At outputs from 1 watt to more than 100 watts into 8 ohms, the distortion was typically between 0.002 and 0.003 percent. 196 watts into 4 ohm loads. Very Impressive (Stereo Review August 1988). Since I have switched over to McIntosh MC-75's circa 1960's, the Marantz is getting a rest.

But Bigger

I apologize for being redundant BUT the image was sooo small..

My favorite has to be my SAE A14. No other integrated amp I've owned has come close to the sonic brilliance that sucker pumped forth from my quad ESS'.

I'll always kick myself for selling my Yammy CA-810-II. As a consolation prize, I still have my Sony TA-5650 VFET. (And a TA-4650 & TA-2650.)

I'm surprised by how many times the Marantz 1060 has been mentioned. I really need to dig mine out of mothballs and get her fixed, to hear what this is all about.

A couple of dozen from Denon, McIntosh, Sony, Yamaha, Cary and my current Mark Levinson No. 383. I'm happy (for now).
