What is your occupation?

I am a rotating equipment repair supervisor/planner for a major oil refiner. I am responsible for the safe and timely repair of pumps, compressors, steam turbines, cooling fans etc. in a 24/7 oil refining environment.

Journalist. Only job I've ever had.

Started when I was 18 at a tiny radio station in Gouverneur NY, from there did a few years of newspaper/radio work, ended up in TV for a year in Watertown NY, my hometown, then to Syracuse and WTVH TV for nearly 20 years as a reporter - anyone reading this who remembers the Ron Curtis era, I was there for most of that - then back to Watertown, where I've been the news director of the local station for the last 19+ years.

So my career has consisted of driving 60 miles down Route 81 to Syracuse and back. I'm far, far luckier than most people in TV - my station is part of a small, family-owned company, very stable, treats employees decently, cares about serving the communities the station reaches. We're a tiny market - 178 - but have decent sized staff, and all the toys I need.

We're close to Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, so since 9/11 the federal government has played an outsized role here. Presidents Bush and Obama have visited, as have VPs and secretaries of defense. Then-candidate Donald Trump as well, and if the last 15 years are any guide, we'll see President Trump at some point.

I've had the occasional opportunity to go bigger, but passed - we got to raise our kids in a small town, my wife has a great job.

Pray that Sinclair doesn't acquire your station.
