What turntable did you buy for $10 or under?

AK member slovell has received a great response (over 140 replies to date) on which new turntables to buy for $1000 or under. A second thread set a $500 as the limit.

How about hearing from the other end?

What turntable did you find for $10 or under?

Remember it is not bragging if you did it. The replies should be encouraging to many looking to take up vinyl or up grade their system.

I would have a hard time justifying spending $1000 or even $500 to play my $1 thrift and garage sale LPs. I know many of us have found very decent turntables for $10 or under. Thats less than the price of new stylus.

Gosh, all of them! Well ok in truth, I got a Marantz 6200 that is on the deck for a restore and practice for veneering for $10 I got the turntable and Weltron Amp. $1 for my Dual 1215 UA plinth cover and M70EJ cart/stylus all but the stylus in near mint condition except for a little chip that I fixed. $8 for TP1010 Sanyo. $9.99 for my Denon DP35f only thing wrong is a chemical burn on the cover that I keep threatening to sand out. Those are the ones I paid for then a whole bunch of others that I got for free, or paid to take away.

This post was made for me! I keep track of what, where and when I buy/sell my equipment. So, going back to the list, here's the details... and I only have one TT anymore (the first one on this list):

-Technics SL-B2 ($0, 1999) w/original box and paperwork
-Elac 50H ($0, 4/19/1994)
-Garrard 72B ($1, 1994)
-Dual 1229Q ($10, 5/2000)
-BSR MacDonald 6500CX (w/orig. box, $2.75, 9/2000)
-Garrard AT60 ($3, 12/1996)
-Pioneer PL-516 ($0, 2000)
-Rotel RP-2400 ($20, but came with an H/K receiver, 3/1996)
-TWO AR turntables ($1, 5/2000 and $20 w/an Audionics amp, 6/2007)
-Technics SP-10mkII ($0, 10/2000, working 'table only IN THE TRASH!)
-Technics SL-1500mkII ($0, 7/2000, on the curb in Manhattan; badly beatup)
-Dual 1214 ($1, 2000)
-Voice of Music portable ($1, 12/1996)
-Technics SP-25 ($25 but included a vintage Shure preamp, 10/2000)
-Marantz TT-2000 ($2.75, 3/2002)
-Mitsubishi LT-70 ($10, 11/2002)
-Phillips 212 ($12, 12/2003)
-Marantz 6100 ($0, 2/2004, IN THE TRASH!)
-Dual 1245 ($10, 2/2004)

Five tables under $10, Garrard Lab 80 and an "A" type, Elac/Miracord 50H and a BIC 680 and Denon DP-1200 that were given to me for free. The first three came a bit "challenged" and need/needed some work, the Denon and BIC only needed cleaning and a bit of lube and run like new. They're definitely out there to be found and not just dreck.

I got a JVC QL-5 for $10 at a house sale. It had a large potted plant on top of it and I almost missed it.

Oh my, some really great tables in that lot. I am so envious of the SP-10 mk II. That has been at the very top of my list to find ever since I first saw one!

Here is my list of the best ones.

I use all except the Dual 1264 and 1216 preferring my Dual 1249 that I paid more for 1981.

My favorite of those below is the Sony PS-X6 with a cast aluminum table and base and with touch bars for switches.

Dual CS 1264 Automatic Turntable/Changer belt drive w/Empire MC +20 gold cart stylus SMC@)-gold w/.3 x.7mil elliptical 6-26-06 $8

Dual CS 627Q Automatic Turntable, Direct Drive Quartz 2/4/06 $3
w/ Ortofon LM 15 cartridge, Replaced white guide tip, new needle $10

Akai AP-270 Automatic Turntable Direct Drive w/ ADC QLM 34 Mk III Cart. $10

JVC JL-F30 Automatic Turntable Belt Drive w/ Audio Technica Cart. $0 from fellow garage saler, 7-9-05

Sony PS-X6 Direct Drive Stereo Automatic Turntable 45 & 33 rpm quartz XTAL – LockSystem, cartridge, Audio Technica $10 2/24/07

Technics SL-D3 Direct Drive Automatic Turntable cartridge, Audio
Technica DR 400E $10 2/24/07

Dual 1216 Automatic Turntable/Changer rim drive 3 speed w/Shure M91MG-D Hi Trac cart No stylus GS $3 5/05 also called CS-16

Most came from garage sales and church benefits since 2005. All have covers.

Thorens TD-124 for THREE DOLLARS was my first real audio score.
You know the old saying: It's better to be luck than good...

Well, I picked up a Pioneer PL-71 with Shure V15-III for $20 at the GW - so, $10 for the TT, and $10 for the cart :) Both in excellent condition, use them daily...

Dual 1019 for -$10 (came with a Shure V15-II and a mismatched NOS (open) V15-III stylus for $40, sold the stylus for $50 ;) )
A couple pieces of dreck, a free plastic kenwood and a $3.00 don't remember what. The don't remember what will eventually become an RCM when I get thru some other projects.

Technics SL-5300 with Stanton L720 cart for $2.00 at a charity sale.

Dual 1249 included in an auction with Marantz 4270 and L100 Century's for $10 total.

75 cents for a perfectly operational if not perfectly pretty Sony PS-X50, with a Shure V15 IV cart body, the original headshell, 45 adapter and additional counterweight.

$8 for a JVC L-L10 that I raided for parts to get my QL-L2 into perfect operating order. Came with a nice Digitrac 280E cartridge, which is now wearing a 200NE stylus.

$10 for a Dual 1215 that needs a bit of attention, has a Shure M91 on the headshell.
