What Was The Last Movie You TRIED To Watch?

Liquid Sky. The only movie that I ever walked out of the theater on. Went to see it when it came out in the early '80's. Didn't make it more than 20 minutes, and I could have cared less if I got my money back or not.

I took the girl I was dating to that one in the early 80s. It was recommended to me by a coworker. While I didn't walk out I didn't hate it either, actually enjoyed it a bit.

The girl I took however hated it and was actually mad I made her sit through it. OTOH, I ended up I marrying my coworker and we are still together; go figure?

:D

Had Taxi for around six years, tried one time to watch..

Are you all talking about "Taxi Driver" with Robert DeNiro or "Taxi" with Jimmy Fallon? "Taxi Driver" is one I plan to view some day, "Taxi" is not.

The Mrs. dragged me to a film about a Hasidic woman in NYC who has to marry her brother-in-law after her sister dies. I could see after ten minutes that it wasn't for me; I left to get a haircut. Not sure of the title.

Taxi Driver..Sorry about that.
That`s what happened to me by mentally blocking the movie out..

I always wanted to go to the movies with Alanis Morissette....

My reaction too, I saw it on release and recall being quite disappointed. I'd gone to see a linear sci-fi but it is anything but. Flash forward several decades and it popped up on one of my streaming channels. I put it on again and found myself laughing as hard as it gets from the sheer plot lunacy and over the top acting. John Lithgow is absolutely on fire in it. It's also a cultural snapshot of the 80s. Painful to say but a good percentage of Peter Weller's wardrobe looked the contents of my closet then and, just as laughable. Like Napolean Dynamite, I needed another viewing to enjoy it. Sometimes it's just being in the right mood.

That was me and "Lost in Translation" -- tried to watch it once, then again a couple years later, and finally still a few years later in my late twenties. Third time was the charm. Really enjoyed it, seen a time or two since. Definitely requires the right mood.

Hairspray... rented it expecting to be entertained because of the industry hype... ejected and returned it after a generous and trying thirty minutes.

The original (with Divine, Ricki Lake, Debbie Harry) was (IMHO) much better than the John Travolta rehash....
I didn't see the original and largely watched the Travolta one because he was in it... thought it would be all about dancing and music... plus the hype. It isn't simply the performance.. it was the overwrought, in my opinion, social commentary coursing through it that turned me off... I was simply looking to entertained. If I knew Debbie Harry was in the first one I might have watched that one... I thought she made great pop hits, like Heart of Glass. Honestly, I had no idea what the movie was about, the themes running through it... I thought it was an expanded green room experience focusing on performance and interplay between actors in a theatrical world... some version of Nights on Broadway. Anyway... I gave it thirty minutes waiting for some depth to emerge from the story line before I had enough. Just not my kind of movie.

Taxi Driver...

I think writers try to develop the characters right out of the gate. De Niro played someone with zero social skills and mentally disturbed. Taking a date to a porn film did to the viewer (you) exactly what he wanted, to make you feel uncomfortable and realize this guy just ain't right. It's something no one sane would do, unless they met at a swinger's club, then maybe not even. It's like the bad guy murdering a little old lady in the first 5 minutes of a crime drama.
As far as the possibility of a female enjoying porn, sure, why not, but that typically is something that shakes out a ways down the road. Most likely, as it is with most men, they watch it due to not having their needs and/or fetishes met at home.

What did you expect? You obviously are not familiar with the collective works of John Waters.
Definitely not familiar with John Waters. I don't believe I have heard his name, at least not to remember it. I was expecting Saturday Night Fever like entertainment with more of an actress/girl/movie business/dancer theme... because of the word hairspray, that lacquer like stuff that used to be so popular with girls and women.. back when guys would put that nasty oil stuff... Brylcreem, names like that... on their hair... how totally nasty that stuff was... I think so anyway. Hairspray though... the name of the movie... just thought it would be a 'girl' movie with good dancing and music. Changing the subject a bit, and about a movie I thought was great.. there was a single season series called Vinyl about the record industry in the seventies... Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger production... I thought it was excellent, but only one season. It had good music and a lot of what we now call vintage hi fi components with names like Nakamichi, Marantz, Pioneer, Philips, etc. I haven't seen it mentioned on AK. I've never started a thread, maybe this belongs on a new one.

:) :) You need to get out more often :) :)
I hear you and Probably so.. I didn't watch TV for.. rather than count years, I took the TV to the curb in 1974.. didn't have one till 2006, got one largely for the new HD and 6x9 format... and, I wanted to watch House. Then I discovered series and started binge watching them, buying the discs, blu ray when possible... so much better in my opinion than standard movie releases. Now it's series all the way... Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Downton Abbey, Longmire.. ones like that. I recently retired my Pioneer Plasma for an OLED 4K set and after four months have yet to put an antenna to it... and don't have cable except for Internet. At this point the only TV I have is U-Tube and a few other online video sources... I watch them on my monitor, a fifty inch Samsung, and I absolutely love the big computer screen... have two of them side to side mounted on the wall, nothing like real estate when it comes to computer screens. When the TV went out of the house I started reading, studying things of interest, devoted myself to hobbies and things that furthered my career and personal development... throwing out the TV for all those years was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I don't suggest throwing the TV out of the house for everybody but for me it was a good thing.

Sounds good....you might want to add "The Shield" and "Rescue Me" to your list of good series....

I ended up marrying the girl that walked out of the movie with me. :D Damn, that was a long time ago! :D
I don't think she would be interested in trying to sit through it again for old time's sake though.

Had Taxi for around six years, tried one time to watch, and when he took her to Porno film, found so disturbing, that I aborted.
Haven`t ever tried to re-engage the viewing of that movie since.

Of over 1000 + BR DVD movies that I own, it remains not completely watched, past that scene since.

May never try to watch again.
I`m not a prude, but that`s not where I`d ever take a date, as most women are not only not interested, but it is a turn off..

Taxi Driver, of course.
That's the point of that scene! He's totally clueless about almost every social norm! One of my favorite movies, BTW. The end is..wow.

I know NOT a movie, but I tried to watch the new Lost in Space TV show. Lasted about 13 minutes. Yeeeccchh.

"The Hangover." Got about halfway through and shut it off when the guy climbed out of the car trunk and kicked the other guy in the nuts. Ridiculous, sophomoric humor, I did not care about any of the characters and didn't find it funny. I realize there are a lot of people who love this movie but it did nothing for me.
