What will happen to AU now?

1. It will stagger on until Norb forgets to pay the site-host fee, when it will fall unceremonously into a heap?

2. AU will become the hangout for all the other audio sites' rejects?

3. All the current AU "mob" will come over and ...

If we vintage folks come over here, the way we did from audio review, where the vintage forum practically shriveled up and died after we moved over.

I like this message board format, so we could easily become the same community that was at AU.

oh I dunno - if a site with few posters only gets smaller, then it kind of makes one think about how some of the big forums started out.

it could pick up - maybe be another AR, or maybe have a different crew.

Well for it to pick up, it needs someone to take the tillar as it were.

Unfortunately Norb has gone (busy with his new job), and the thing is just drifting sideways. I mean look at the home page - links to pages which haven't been updated since last year!!

The YaBB software is inferior to vB IMO, and there have been glitches in it with no one around any longer to restore posts, fix errors etc.

I wish AU well, but it just never took off unfortunately ... :(

Got awfully quiet over there....

No posts since yesterday....on any forum....strange.

Where's Sixcats anyways?

I think everyone else is here.

I think with sixcats difficulties he only gets online sparingly, I am sure he will find his way here ;)

Well I'm very much a creature of habit and I find changing sites a little disrubtive but our moves in the past have always worked out for the better and I'm sure this will not be any different in that regards. I guess the lesson here is that the 'real' forum in the members not the site it's hosted from.

Long live the vintage people

i've noticed some 'new' monikers i didn't see at AU, but i seldom visited the other forums.
too bad about the waste over at AU, there is a whole lotta good info in those back posts on a whole lotta questions.

pete, eternally a newbie :dunno:

Bump an ancient thread and the ancient people come out :D

AudioUtopia was in the throes of death back when I joined in October 2001. At the time, I was making a name for myself on the Honda/Acura message boards, and decided that we could do a better job of this ourselves, rather than leaving it to Norb, who had abandoned the site and was an absentee landlord. It used to crash on a regular basis.

I circulated PMs around AU about the site change, and what I was trying to do, and that's when I met Wardsweb. He helped do up the original AK look and feel, and we came live 10 years ago......

Ten years. My God, how things have changed. And AK is still here :) . To be honest, my original goal in the site was just to have a place for about 30 of us to get together and BS about audio, our lives, etc. Whoda thunk :D

There ya are, you old fart. :D ;) It "kinda" hit me, about AKs 10th anniversary, when I posted here yesterday, but it didn't "really" register at the time. It's like an old TV, sometimes you have to whack me one, to see the whole picture. :D
