Bear Lake on the Utah-Idaho border. Situated between the Wasatch Range and the Bear River Mountains. It is called the Caribbean of the Rockies because of it's intense turquoise color caused by limestone suspensions in the water. It's maximum depth is 298 feet.

Great fishing on the lake. Cutthroat trout (record: 18 pounds) and Mackinaws (record: 30 pounds!!) are the big fish of the lake.

Going to Bear lake was a major event long day trip when I was a kid in the 1950s, remembering when most roads were only 2 lanes sharing fully loaded trucks, and the orange sodium vapor street lights in the towns on them lighting the way thru dawn and dusk.
