I find that even with the 1200mm equiv. Zeiss on my HX-300 that heat wave distortion is quite a problem on warm days (say, above 75 degrees F). It's even quite noticeable on the Sony 55-210. For those reasons I don't use extreme telephoto as often as I would like to in warm weather.
