Magnavox CDB 610
I picked up a Magnavox CDB 610 last weekend for next to nothing. This one uses a Phillips CDM4 transport (I think) with the swing arm laser.
It was manufactured in 1989, cleaned up well, and is as sturdy as any CD player I have. Plays anything I throw at it, and plays it all so well.
The sound is amazing, bettering my Marantz, Sony, Technics, Nakamichi (when it works) and Onkyo CD players, and being bettered only by the Sherwood Newcastle 980T.
I have decided to keep the Magnavox, as I am surprised that this 20 year old player works flawlessly and sounds sooooo good, better than many new low end players.
I had read about the vintage Magnavox players but had no idea that they really sounded so grand. I will part with my Marantz or Technics players, but I will keep my Magnavox until the end.
Beautiful piece, I only wish it were silver to match my Hitachi amp and tuner, but then maybe I will put it up with my Sherwood AM-7040 amp and AP-7020 preamp, which are both black boxes as well.
Cheers
